Spring Fashion: Chanel

Karl Lagerfeld went beyond fashion in the Chanel Spring 2011 show. Every ensemble was like brush stroke laying paint on an empty canvas and creating a elegant, captivating image. The details were enchanting and sealed the impeccable taste and glamour.

Last fall, some asymmetrical designs were seen, but this spring, it seems to be big.

One of the largest themes, seen in Burberry, Celine, and Chanel is punk/rock and roll. Leather, chain jewelry, etc.
I loved the rough shapes bits that were printed and onto various pieces in the Chanel show,  it added a rougher edge.In the dress below, the printed shapes add a rugged feel to a classic, elegant look.

In many spring lines I have noticed higher necklines. In the last few years we have seen daringly low necklines, but in this show and many others this season, you can see high necklines and more, larger collars, especially the classic 60s, straight neckline, shown below (bottom center) with a stiffer shape.

One style seen in the Chanel show that I have not seen as much in other shows is feathers.
As I have seen in some other shows, Greek and Italian renaissance inspired clothing seems to be big. Black and white graphics, metallics, and bright florals, loose clothing and draping.

Sheer layers seemed to be big on the Chanel runway, a light, see through layer over or under a darker layer.

Fashionably,
The Fashioneur
