How to say bye bye to buying

Shopping. I love shopping. After many trips where I ended up with a stack of clothes up to the ceiling, no more closet space, and an unhappy wallet, I learned to say GOODBYE to all that BUYING. All it takes is a little thinking and a few simple rules.

Before you buy...

  1. Does it fit? Never buy something without trying it on first. If it doesn't fit, don't try to make it work. It wont. In the store, you may tell your self that it will be perfect, if you just wear a belt with it...but you wont. If it doesn't fit, don't waste your time and money on it.
  2. Will you wear it? Honestly. Don't lie to yourself.
    1. When will you wear it? Don't buy something that you don't have anywhere to wear. It's okay to buy something like a nice dress to have when you need one, but if you really don't go to many formal events, you don't need a bunch of expensive ball gowns.
    2. What will you wear it with? Do you have something you can wear with this? You can buy something else to go with it specifically, but make sure you have other pieces to wear with it at home. If you get stuck with something that you can only wear one way, you will get tired of it very quickly.
    3. How often will you wear it? Is this something that you will really get a good use out of. Is it worth it for the price?
  3. How much is it?
    1. Can you get it somewhere else for less?
    2. Is it more than you want to pay?
    3. Is it worth it?
    4. Is it on sale?
    5. Will it go on sale soon?
  4. Do you really really really want it? Think about it. Do you need it for something in particular? If not, can you treat yourself to something right now? If you can, get it.
  5. Think about it. Give yourself time to think. If you are unsure, put it on hold and if you just cant stop thinking about it, go and get it. If you forget about it, it wasn't important to you.

Fashionably,
The Fashioneur
